    Golf Course Information
The Red Course at Frilford Heath is the club’s original and most celebrated layout — a true expression of English heathland golf. Designed in 1908 by five-time Open Champion J.H. Taylor, it combines classical strategy with natural beauty: wide, springy fairways, expanses of purple heather and gorse, and subtly contoured greens that reward precision and creativity.
The course’s openness invites bold play, yet every hole demands thought and discipline. A long-time host of The Open regional qualifying, the English Amateur, and the Brabazon Trophy, the Red has tested generations of elite players while remaining endlessly enjoyable for members and visitors alike — timeless, fair, and full of character.

The Red Course was crafted in 1908 by J.H. Taylor, the legendary five-time Open Champion, who shaped its rolling heathland and bold bunkering with the same precision and imagination that defined his playing career.
